Illumina-The Memory of Light

Letizia Lopreiato

Illumina – The Memory of Light (La Memoria della Luce) is Letizia Lopreiato’s latest bilingual film documentary, developed throughout 2022 and 2023, and shot on 35mm BW film. It is the story of how absence can be allowed in to reconnect with safety in our body. The project is the first result of Lopreiato’s transmedia documentary series, centred in the exploration of fear as both an individual and collective experience, through its sociological and psychological dimensions and dynamics, which understanding of, and compassionate approach to, are cardinal for the development of inclusive communities.

Letizia Lopreiato is a multilingual visual artist creating photography based installation art promoting inclusion and cooperation. She writes and performs her work in English, Italian, Spanish and French, which has been published and exhibited internationally, across Ireland, the UK and France. Through the application of 35 mm photography, Super 8 and her poetry and spoken word, Lopreiato’s documentary art practice focuses on fostering social engagement thanks to the creation of text-, image- and sound-based inclusive installations. Her transmedia creations are devoted to be holding space for empathy, while serving as catalysts for a change in conversation about access in photography.
