Double Book Launch

Atong Atem, Lola Flash

Join artists Atong Atem and Lola Flash in launching their new publications. Both artists are present to meet and for signing.

Dust, Atong Atem

Dust is the latest work by artists Atong Atem, commissioned by Catherine McKinley for PhotoIreland Festival, exploring the relationship of Dinka women who act as mediums and custodians to the earth, to the rupturing history of Christianity and colonialism. On the occasion of this commission, Dream Press (S. Africa) designed and produced an edition of 200 risograph publication.

Believable: Travelling with my Ancestors, Lola Flash

The seventeenth volume in a groundbreaking series of LGBTQ-themed photobooks from The New Press, Believable draws on the extraordinary body of work that Lola Flash has created over four decades, from their iconic Cross Colour images from the 1980s and early 1990s to their more recent photography, which used the framework of Afrofuturism to examine the intersection of Black culture and technoculture and science fiction. Also included in the book are portraits that explore the impact of skin pigmentation on Black identity and consciousness, as well as people who have challenged traditional concepts of gender and trendsetters in the urban underground cultural scene.
